About this event

NB This event is for members and invited guests-only. We reserve the right to cancel tickets and refuse entry.

GUEST SPEAKER: Lib Peck, Director of the Violence Reduction Unit at London City Hall.

Open to: across London Citizens, we have held Youth Safety Commissions involving over 800 young Londoners, all of whom are seeking to participate in keeping their friends and peers safe. This workshop is open to any leaders who are concerned about the number of young people getting injured and killed on our streets, and want to participate in shaping what specific issues we would like to focus on towards the Mayoral Assembly.

What to expect: Leaders from across London Citizens will: a) learn about the powers of the Mayor over policing; b) hear testimony around how some of these issues are affecting members and what different alliances are doing about it; c) share ideas around possible solutions within the Mayor’s gift.

Some of the issues we may engage around include:

- relationship between young people & the police

- excluding young people from schools and how better to include them

- early intervention and support for parents

- feeling safe in public spaces and public transport

- access to opportunities (higher education / jobs)

Next meeting: Tuesday 10 September, 17:30 – 20:00

Organized by

Citizens UK is the UK’s biggest, most diverse, and most effective people-powered alliance. We’re bringing together everyday people and local organisations to build a better, fairer society.

What is Community Organising?

Community organising is about bringing people together to win change. This means building community-led solutions to big and small problems, that work for everyone.

Through community organising, we work together to make change on the issues that matter, from campaigning for zebra crossings on dangerous roads, to reforming the immigration system, to the Living Wage campaign.

We know everyday people have the ability to shape the world around them and together, we put the power back into people’s hands to hold those responsible to account.

By building positive working relationships between communities, elected power-holders and businesses, we make sure everyone is heard and no one is left out. This is how we shift the balance of power, helping people come together across their differences, find common ground and win change.

Together, we have a proven track record of winning change on the things that you and your community care about most.
